Five reasons you should get a job in care

Thinking about a career in care in Brighton & Hove? If you want to make a real difference in people’s lives right in your local community, caring might be for you.

1. Every care visit helps someone

You’ll support people living in their own homes. That could be helping with personal care, making a meal, or simply sharing a cup of tea and a chat. Your role is to help people in our community live better, and that’s a great feeling.

It’s incredibly rewarding to feel appreciated for the work and support I provide. Knowing that I can relieve some of the pressure that those people face during a difficult period in their lives is something I take pride in.

Beverley

Care Assistant

As part of Southern Hospice Group, all Nestwell Home Care’s profits are reinvested back into local hospice services – Martlets, St Barnabas House and Chestnut Tree House. This means that every hour our team spends caring, also supports people at the end of life with dignity and compassion.

2. Support your community with new skills

You don’t need experience to start a career in care – we provide training and guidance to help you learn. You can also gain qualifications, such as an NVQ or diploma.

Some carers use this as a stepping stone to nursing or healthcare assistant roles. Others stay simply because they love what they do. You also get opportunities to learn alongside the skilled palliative care staff at Southern Hospice Group’s three hospices.

3. Enjoy flexibility as a carer

You choose the hours that suit your life. People need care 365 days a year, so there are shifts available that can fit in with your schedule.

Maybe you’re caring for a family member, or you have other responsibilities – flexible hours mean you can take care of your personal commitments too.

We offer paid travel time, mileage, and paid training for all our care jobs in Brighton & Hove.

4. No two days are the same

In a caring role, every day is different. You’ll meet different people, learn about their lives, and take on various tasks and responsibilities throughout your role.

Every person you care for has different needs. One visit might involve helping someone move around their home. Another might mean sharing a hobby or just listening to their stories.

5. There’s a care role for you

There are various roles in care. You might provide care in people’s homes like we do at Nestwell, or you might prefer care homes or hospital settings.

At Nestwell, we’re always looking for compassionate and dedicated carers – if you think caring might be right for you, browse our job listings or get in touch below.

I’ve only been in the care industry for 18 months, after deciding I wanted a career change. To say I love my job with Nestwell Home Care (formerly Martlets Care) is an understatement, the people I meet and the gratitude they show make it so worth while. The job entails so many different things from making people comfortable in the palliative side to giving people more independence by helping them do their weekly food shop. Each client has different needs and different care plans, which makes my job variable every day.

Stacey

Care Assistant

I’m a proud Nestwell Home Care (formerly Martlets Care) carer, the best part of my role is the satisfaction of helping people, and giving something back as they looked after my beloved brother in the past.

We all give 100% to our clients – they are given person centred care as we believe everyone is their own person and not just a number or a name. I love the empathy from the Nestwell Home Care team, including the resources provided to both carers and clients.

Sarah

Care Assistant

I have always worked in Recruitment, but after leaving that to look after my children, and then looking after my Nan for a few years, I realised caring for others was something I could do.

Working for Nestwell Home Care (formerly Martlets Care) is very rewarding, knowing that I make a difference to someone’s day however small, is heartwarming.

-Nestwell have a great team of people in all areas, they all have the same ethos for person centred care. We are well supported, and all take care of each other, as well as our clients. Also, knowing that all profits are going back into the Hospice is a huge bonus too.

Julie
